This was my first UOA and first useage of GC 0-30. Comments would be appreciated. This is the green version of GC.

IIRC, GC 0-30 has a VOA TBN of 10? and is also noted for being a little on the thick side for a 0-30, which may help explain its 505 rating.
I will add that I refilled with D1 and the engine is just not as quiet as it is with GC- FWIW.

This analysis is a little different than the first one- different lab, but it appears that the results are similar for the two oils. Iron is a little higher w/ GC than the T&Suv. Insight from the more experienced is appreciated. My next OCI will be with gold GC, so we will see what that one looks like in a few months. I used the CAT lab on this one because the cost is more reasonable- $13 and change.

truman, are you able to buy the GC any longer? The numbers look good.

The only GC that I am able to find at present is the new version of GC, which is amber in color and doesn't smell the same. After this run w/D1, I may do another UOA and then do the same with the new version of GC. It's a shame they didn't leave the green elixir alone.
Thanks for the review DD.

'03JW-5spd, 66,500 miles, 216s, OMI, upgraded to RC2 midway thru the OCI.
BTW, how does this UOA compare to what typically can be expected on a TDI such as mine?

the Fe wear rate is right at 4.9ppm/1000miles, which is probably close to average for a TDI with nozzles, a chip and 66k.

i wouldn't be surprised if time and M1-T&SUV drop your Fe wear rate down to the 3-4ppm/1000miles range. amazingly, from what i've seen, UOA wear rates continue to improve in TDIs even beyond 100k.

depending on what you're willing to pay for oil, i'd recommend trying Elf Solaris LLX 5w-30 507.00 for an OCI. it'd certainly be an interesting three oil comparison (Castrol / Mobil / ELF).
